About this book

The history of the Dolj Bar from 1864-1928 written by the great lawyer George Demetrescu Miulescu remains the most important monographic work dedicated to such research, a complex analysis of what happened to the body of lawyers from Craiova and the regulation of the profession in that era, as well as an evocation of the events that happened during the First World War. That is why the work keeps its relevance. In the period after 1990, on the occasion of some cultural actions, under the leadership of deans Mihail Neagoe, Anton Pleşa and Ion Turculeanu, the work was often evoked and thus the need to know it by today's lawyers arose, all the more since the phenomena are repetitive and we observe a striking similarity between what happened more than a century ago and what we are experiencing. This is how the idea of re-editing the History of the Dolj Bar appeared, and in the meeting of the Council on September 18, 2014, at the insistence of Mr. Dean Ion Turculeanu, it was unanimously decided that under the auspices of a serious publishing house and at the expense of the bar, the work should be carried out, which was completed at the beginning of the next mandate, which has the lawyer Lucian Săuleanu as Dean. Through his entire activity George Dem. Miulescu stood out as one of the prestigious lawyers from Oltenia, "an excellent professional, a man of great culture and moral standing, who constantly campaigned for the prestige and thorough organization of the legal profession", as noted by the lawyer, senator and judge Ion Predescu. Reading the book is beneficial, once again seeing that there are times when you cannot make compromises, because you only live life once and you don't care how. George Dem. Miulescu remained in the collective memory as the man who devotedly served the Romanian people, the city where he was born, lived and worked, leaving behind a creed: honor, devotion, patriotism.
