The Shaman, Aurora Dumitrescu's most recent novel, abandons the patterns of modernity, which consecrates literature as a free intellectual game and demonstration of technical refinement, for the initiatory function from the beginnings of art. The heroes, in which we find ourselves, are engaged, as in a true fairy tale, in initiatory journeys to the "other world", from Peru to Nepal, where, forced to abandon their habits that make them prisoners of ignorance, they rediscover the archetypal energies liberating from the fear of death and suffering. The dramatic or tragic trials they face constitute a therapy that reveals to them the steps of wisdom to assume the inevitable biographical accidents in destiny and enjoy the chance of life. Connecting the energy of the mind with that of the heart, the Shaman offers us, through the very effort of knowledge and self-initiation of the author, a way to become, at the end of the reading, better, more fulfilled!
