Known as a literary historian, thanks to his extensive essays devoted to "sensitive" themes, Alexandru Macedonski and the complex of modernity (1985) or Tudor Arghezi - religious poet (1999), through which he convincingly dismantles and applied the routines of reception, MARIN BEŞTELIU approaches, this time, the novel, with the certainty of the writer who is not alien to either the narrative techniques to verify success, or the polemical perspective on conformist, conjunctural and simplistic of the "obsessive decade". Without becoming a belated rip-off with history, Child of the Party targets the old regime, revealing with serene lucidity the mechanisms of the dictatorial, coercive system of fear, compromises, and cynical manipulation. Baldovin, the main character of the book, a captive of this system, naive and "honest", is not a victim, but a product, although he lives in a dramatic way the overwhelming revelation of the abandonment of "generous" ideals, of human degradation, of general villainy. Far from the mannerism of the so-called "political novel", selectively unmasking, The Party's Child is a confessional story, a story of sincerity, close to the epic constructions of Augustin Buzura, legitimizing, at the same time, a certain vocation.
