The fact that we have been living for several decades in an "image civilization" is hard to dispute today. Are we currently witnessing the end of the "Gutenberg galaxy", the civilization of writing? This question is still looking for an answer. The fact that we are witnessing a veritable explosion of images, that photography, cinema, advertising, television and the media in general rule our lives is again a difficult fact to dispute. But should we be worried? Perhaps, before we worry, it is more prudent to study, to research this phenomenon, which governs our lives. The birth of visual culture produced a change that led to "the end of the primacy of Book culture", as Doru Pop puts it. But in this volume, we aim to use the letter to understand the image, to use philosophical and anthropological discourse to understand visual culture. The articles and studies in this volume are grouped according to the themes they address: theories of the image, the image in art, religion and television, the cinematic imaginary and imaginary spaces.
