About this book

The work with the title "Organization and functioning of the state institutions in Wallachia during the period 1849 - 1856" had two stages of elaboration: October 2004-September 2006 (identification of sources, study of the general and special bibliography and archival research work) and October 2006-September 2008 (compilation of the thesis plan, drafting of the body of the work and related appendices). The work totals 305 pages of actual text (structured in three chapters and another introductory chapter, of various sizes, depending on the documentary material available) and another 45 pages of selective bibliography. The theme addressed was constantly regarded as only one of the "history of law and political institutions", in this work proving its real potential, which is much greater, having a tangent with internal politics, military history, diplomacy, the comparative history of the Romanian countries in the modern era, legislation and reform as institutional support. The studied period is punctuated by two major diplomatic events: the Balta–Liman Convention (April 19/May 1, 1849) and the Paris Peace Treaty (March 18/30, 1856) and another of a military nature, with episodes and implications on the territory of Romania - the Crimean War (1853–1856). The novelty of our work consists in the exploitation, in a scientific sense, of new sources, especially those in the field of archives, personal funds (Barbu–Dimitrie Ştirbei, Dimitrie Ghica, Al. I. Cuza, Gheorghe Magheru), funds of the Ministries (of the Interior, Justice, War, Agriculture, etc.), as well as the Microfilm Collections (France, Italy, Austria, Russia, Turkey, Bulgaria) within the National Historical Archives Power plants.
