About this book

In the novel Absenții, as in the biography of the author, we find stories of giving up the career of a doctor. In the motivational structures of writing, however, Augustin Buzura's separation from medicine never actually happened. The novelist Buzura derives his moral program to fight "psychic death" from the imaginary of the medical profession. The ethical commitment of the novelist will always have, as a term of reference, the deontological commitment (for healing) of the doctor, in a complicated scenario of renunciation and rediscovery, of overcoming and returning, in view of new metaphorical equivalences of literature with medicine.
