About this book
Researcher at the "Gaston Bachelard" Center, novelist, professor of philosophy at the Carnot High School in Dijon, former president of the "Friends of Gaston Bachelard" Association in Bar-Sur-Aube, the philosopher's native village, Jean Libis (b. 1944, Dijon) is known for several books translated in Romania, under the coordination of the Center for Studies on the Imaginary and Rationality "Mircea Eliade" of the University of Craiova. His most important studies on the imaginary are: Le mythe de l'androgine, Berg International, Paris, 1980 (reissued in 1991); L'eau et la mort (trans. from face), Éditions Universitaires de Dijon, 1993 (republished at C.R.D.P., Dijon, 1996); Folies douces. Approches de la peinture by Marie Javouhey, Éditions W, Dijon, 1995; Gaston Bachelard. A romanticist rationalist (in collaboration with Pascal Nouvel), Éditions Universitaires de Dijon, 1997. Among his novels we mention: La musique et l'hiver, Balland, Paris, 1985; Les jardins dispersés, Éditions Alei, Dijon, 1987; La dormeuse d'ombres, Éditions Alei, Dijon, 1988; Trop de jaune sous les acacias Éditions Alei, Dijon, 1991. In the work Water and death Jean Libis proposes to revalue the imaginary of lethal water, along the lines opened by Gaston Bachelard, by interpreting some literary, plastic and musical creations. He thus achieves a more complete philosophical reading of the symbolic imaginary of water, an imaginary that cannot be reduced to its vitalistic dimension. (Ionel Buse)
