About this book

No one laughed in the same way as Macedonski in Romanian literature. Whoever laughs like Macedonski does so out of despair. Because there is in laughter, in all forms of irony, a tendency to diminish or, at least, to relativize their object. Tudor Vianu If there was a "threshold paradigm" in Romanian poetry, Alexandru Macedonski would be its founder. The "poetry of the future", as it was seen "On the brink of the century", was a departure from romanticism and a long and insistent look into the 20th century, a look with veiled vision, we could say. Constantly proposed as an alternative to Maioresian and Eminesian Junimism, Macedonski's conception of literature was not sufficiently solid and theoretically stable to gain primacy in the maturation process of Romanian literature. The self-referential appetite and the theoretical outbursts generated tensions that did not materialize immediately in a new literary direction, but gave birth to polemics that would prove fertile only in the processing of interwar critics and estheticians. No one can deny that there was a literary school at the "Literatorul" magazine, led by the author of "Logics of Poetry". Gabriel Nedelea
