A work of erudition, investigating a huge material (also valued in the excellent Anthology of Romanian Symbolist Poetry from 1968, in which he assertively notes the homologies between the avant-garde and symbolism), with hermeneutic focuses and analyzes of indisputable depth, with an emphasis on what the author calls "poetic mastery", Romanian Symbolism follows the historicized evolution of this current from a multiple perspective: social, ideological, psychological and aesthetic, an approach that foreshadows current ways of evaluating creation, when the aesthetic is modulated by an ethical and civic horizon.
