About this book

In Mysteries of the Black Jungle, Tremal-Naik is forced to face the odious Suyodhana, a strong, cunning, agile, authoritarian, cruel and fanatical Indian. He is the leader of the thugs, who live underground on the island of Raimangal, under the Pagoda in the Sunderbundus of the Ganges and who, in honor of the bloody goddess Kalì, kill their victims by strangulation. Tremal-Naik finally succeeds in snatching Ada, the Pagoda Maiden, from the clutches of the thugs and marrying her. But the diabolical Suyadhana kidnaps little Darma, Tremal-Naik's daughter, with the intention of making her the new Virgin of the Pagoda, instead of her mother. At the desperate call of Tremal-Naik, Sandokan together with the Portuguese Yanez de Gomera, his friend, jump to his support. Traversing the dangerous but fascinating jungle in its wildness, confrontations with thugs who are cunning and thirsty for the blood they want to offer to their goddess, fighting with jungle beasts and other adventures are obstacles in the way of the daredevils, until they reach the Pagoda of thugs. Here await him the battles in the macabre underground and full of traps, Suyodhana's escape with little Darma from the pirates and other adventures. Also added - to the surprise of the reader - are the descriptions of Indian customs and rituals of the cities of Calcutta and Delhi. Here, in Delhi, the decisive confrontation takes place between the Tiger from Malaysia - Sandokan - and the Tiger from India - Suyodhana. The two tigers is a novel in which the adventure is perfectly intertwined with the exoticism of the places.
