About this book
Emilio Salgari was born on August 21, 1862, in Verona and died on April 25, 1911, in Turin. He wanted to become a sea captain, but he never got to roam the seas and oceans. The only water journey he made was on board a ship, for three months, along the coasts of the Adriatic. All his information about the distant lands he dreamed of traveling to was obtained only in the library (like Jules Verne, the French writer he admired, the second admired writer being the German Karl May), through books, magazines, maps, travel notes, etc. But the huge talent of the Italian writer, who lets the imagination complete the "documentation", is revealed not only in descriptions of an astonishing literary veracity of exotic lands, but also in the ability to build high-tension conflicts, with unexpected developments and spectacular endings, delighting millions of young readers, and not only that. The work of Emilio Salgari was divided into four narrative cycles: The Pirates of Malaysia ("The Mysteries of the Black Jungle", "The Tigers of Mompracem", "The Pirates of Malaysia", "The Two Tigers", "The Conquest of an Empire", "Sandokan Returns to Battle", "The Reconquest of Mompracem", "The Brahmin of Assam", "The Revenge of Yanez"); The Corsairs of the Antilles ("The Black Corsair", "The Caribbean Queen", "Jolanda, the Black Corsair's Daughter", "The Red Corsair's Son", "The Last Corsairs"); Bermuda Corsairs ("Bermuda Corsairs", "The Cross of Tuonante", "The Extraordinary Adventures of Cape Stone"); Adventures in the Far West ("At the borders of the Far West", "The skinner", "Burning forests").
