About this book

In the history of Italian literature, the writer Emilio Salgari (1862-1910) is considered to be the creator of adventure novels and a great forerunner of science fiction literature. He is among the top 40 most translated Italian authors of all time. Like the books of his masters – Jules Verne and Karl May, Emilio Salgari's novels were the basis of more than 40 screen adaptations, some of them bearing the signature of famous Italian directors. The greatest notoriety of his work has the Pirates of Malaysia cycle in which Sandokan is the main character. The character's popularity has meant that, until now, there are other books with Sandokan published by Italian writers such as Luigi Motta, Emilio Fancelli or Omar Salgari (Emilio's son). In the novel The Mystery of the Black Jungle (published in 1895), the main character is the "snake hunter" Tremal-Naik, forced by circumstances to go through a series of incredible adventures with the tiger Darma and the dog Punty. The hunter will have to risk his own life to save Ada, the beautiful daughter of an English officer with whom he was in love. In this novel Sandokan, the vigilante character who acts in the seas of Malaysia against the English and the Dutch, does not appear, but it will set the natural framework of the novels that will follow and in which the pirate will show himself in all his greatness.
